Public Transit Between Boston and New York City

The New York Transit Museum Store and Transit Gifts have some neat posters for sale like the one above by Julia Rothman and a blown up photo of Grand Central Station from 1934.

To get to New York City, I usually take Amtrak's Northeast Regional train (or the Acela, if I'm looking for more comfort and a quicker ride) from Boston’s South Station direct to New York’s Penn Station.  I've also traveled on the Bolt Bus, which was fine. I personally prefer having more space to work/read/watch the world go by while traveling by train. Have you ever used public transit to visit New York City?
